ROPPEL, Harold
January 3, 1925 - April 20, 2011

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of Harold Wesley Roppel. He passed away peacefully on April 20, 2011 at the age of 86 years at the Strathmore Hospital in the presence of his loving wife Helen and son Darryl. He was predeceased by his mother Irene, father Louis, stepmother Nora, sister Marjorie Ferraris, granddaughter Jeanine Roppel, grandson Jordan Roppel and foster sister Kay Reimer. Harold and Helen were happily married for 64 years and raised three children on the family farm: Wesley (Lyn), Charlotte (Bob) and Darryl (Tammy). He was also blessed with six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Harold was devoted to farming in the Rockyford area for 78 years then retired to Strathmore. Throughout his life he enjoyed hunting, baseball and hockey, although his greatest love was curling. He was a member of the Rockyford Curling Club for 51 years, made many good friends over those years and also enjoyed good competition. In his earlier years he was an active member of the Masons, Eastern Star and School Board. Harold was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed every opportunity for a family gathering. He was a very honest, hard working man. Anyone who knew him well, knew his word was his bond and the deal was sealed with a simple handshake. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The family wish to express their heartfelt thanks to the Kidney Dialysis Unit at Peter Lougheed Hospital, Strathmore EMS and the Strathmore Handy Bus. Funeral Services were held in the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend P.H Burrill officiating. Graveside Service followed in the Garden of Apostles, Mountain View Memorial Gardens. If so desired, Memorial Donations in Harold’s memory may be made directly to the Strathmore EMS (196 Brent Blvd., Strathmore, Alberta, T1P 1E8) To email expressions of sympathy: mountainview@arbormemorial.com Subject heading: Harold Roppel.  Arrangements entrusted to Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1605 - 100 Street SE (17 Ave. SE at Garden Rd.), Calgary AB, T1X 0L4.  Telephone (403) 272-5555 www.mountainviewmemorial.ca
