Stevenson, Jessie (King)

August 28, 1926 – December 22, 2010

It is with great  sadness that we announce the passing of long time resident of Hinton, Jessie Stevenson.  Three sisters, Vera Slater, Jacqueline Parks, Kathyrne Borwick (Ian),  brother, Allen King and in-laws, Shirley Biggar (Bev), Shirley King and   Ron Stanger survive her.  She is also survived by her dear friend, Elaine Allen and many nieces and nephews.  Jessie was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Robert, sister Marie Stanger, brother Russell and sister-in-law Jeannette King.  {jathumbnail off}

Jessie was born and raised in Michichi, Alberta where she spent her early years attending country schools then later went into teacher training at a very young age.  She taught at several rural schools in the Drumheller area.   She married Robert in 1948 and continued to teach in Delia, Alberta, the area where they farmed.  The move to Hinton was made in 1956 to be part of that growing community.  She was a much-loved teacher for more than 30 years, teaching in makeshift classrooms until the town was able to construct schools.  She taught all levels of school and retired as a math teacher to junior and high school students.  Her students will remember how effective she was in helping them learn.  Jessie also tutored many students after she retired.  She was a small person but will be remembered by many of her students as a very large influence in their lives.

Jessie and Robert enjoyed the outdoors where fishing and camping were always a focus of their summer activities.  They travelled in their RV with   friends   and later spent many winters in Apache Junction, AZ.

Jessie will be greatly missed by her family and friends.  A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring.  Donations may be made to the charity of choice in memory of Jessie Jean Stevenson.
