Walter

May 21, 2017

Walter Polych passed away at the age of 87 on May 21, 2017 at the Drumheller Continuing Care Facility, where he spent the last 18 years of his life. He was one of the original patients who relocated from the original Nursing Home. He was born in Drumheller, where he spent the majority of his life, and will now make his final resting place at the Drumheller Cemetery surrounded by other family members who passed before him. Walter was a hard-working individual with a varied work career. He began as a coal miner in the Midland mine, then as a farmhand for various farmers in the wheat fields surrounding Drumheller and Hanna, and finally as a service contractor in the oil industry where he ran his own business, Polych and Polych Oilfield Services Ltd. Walter was a very fun-loving, social man with many friends. He loved to fish, garden, craft wood, dance, and play bingo. Walter is survived by his daughters: Karen Holt (Francis); Sheila Paullus (Rick); Sherry Polych (Gordon) and daughter-in-law Bonnie. He had seven grandchildren: Lorry and Robin Horvath, Tenille and Chad Paullus, Mitchell Cormack and Michelle Bascom (Michael), and Melody Polych (Shane), as well as 5 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Carl and Phyllis; brothers, Frank and Stanley; son, Allen; great grandson, Stephen in infancy; and his former wife, Ruby. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the Chapel in the Valley at 2:00 p.m. with lunch to follow at the Drumheller Legion. Flowers are declined and donations (if desired) may be made to Drumheller Continuing Care. Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Homes are in care of the arrangements. The family would like to thank Dr. Graham, Dr. Liknes and the staff at the Drumheller Continuing Care and Recreation & Therapy Department for the wonderful care Walter received during his lengthy stay at the facility.
