SKOMAR (Ellis), Joyce Emily

December 7, 1936 - August 28, 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother, Grandma and Auntie. Joyce Emily Skomar slipped away on August 28, 2016 at the age of 79 years at the Drumheller Hospital. Mom went peacefully surrounded by family. Mom was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband, Fred Skomar; her mother and father, Emily and Robert Ellis; and her three brothers, Baby Ellis, Jackie and Teddy Ellis; two sisters, Grace Stewart and her husband Neil, and Joan Albright; her first born Joanne Skomar; her grandson Jarrett Bosch; and two nieces Linda Shelby and her husband, and Angie and a nephew Ron Flemming; and a sister-in-law Frances Deptuk. Mom was born in Dodsland, SK on December 7, 1936 and was raised in Major, SK. She moved to Drumheller with her family in 1948 where she finished her schooling. Her first job was at the Drumheller Hospital. She met and married her soulmate Fred Skomar and married him on December 17, 1955. She worked at the Corner Cafe up until 1960. Together they started their family of three beautiful daughters Joanne Edna in 1961, Janice Grace in 1965 and her baby Julia Emily in 1971. Mom’s happiest days were raising her 3 girls, doing gardening, baking and cooking. When her grandsons came they made flower gardens, hauled rocks with them in the little red wagon, planted vegetables and flowers. Mom enjoyed riding bike, climbing hills with her grandsons and her chocolate lab dog Ty. She enjoyed volunteering at the East Coulee Community Hall for bingos and pancake breakfasts. She also enjoyed reading, crocheting, talking on the telephone with family and friends and watching The Young and the Restless on T.V. Mom leaves her lovely daughters and their husbands, Janice and Rick Bosch of Drumheller, and Julia and Lucien Perrault of Wainwright, and one special grandson she was so proud of Connor Reid Bosch of Red Deer. She also leaves one special niece and her son Emily Flemming and David. Mom will also be remembered by her brother-in-law Raymond Albright, her nephew Robert (Louisa) Albright, Ryan (Christine) Albright and aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan. Mom leaves many dear friends. Joyce’s family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Ram and the Drumheller Hospital staff for the wonderful care she received there. Mom requested a private graveside service which took place on September 2, 2016. A special thank you to Courtney-Winters Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Drumheller and District Humane Society.
