BritniJoyal

JOYAL, Britni

November 3, 1988 – April 2, 2016

Britni, a member with the Calgary Police Service, passed away suddenly the morning of April 2, 2016. She will be greatly missed by her parents Karla (Ken) Cousins and Dan (Louise) Joyal, sister Brandi Joyal, step-sisters Tina Nickiforuk and Kimberley (Nathan) Payne, step brothers Steve (Christina), James (Jeannette), Casey, grandmothers Liliane Joyal and Fran Cousins, nephews Reece, James Jr., Danny, and Alex and niece Shelby. Brit will also be missed by many special aunts, uncles and cousins. As well as family, Britni had many dear friends who were very special to her: Jen and Jen’s mom Theresa, Allie, Jessica, Shawn and Stacey, police partner Kevin, and Sergeant Tracey. Britni was predeceased by her grandparents Val and Karl Chun, Martial Joyal, and Alan Cousins. Britni was born in Red Deer, AB, and raised in the Village of Carbon. She was very active in school sports, especially basketball, attending provincials in each of her high school years. She loved watching basketball, especially her L.A. Lakers. Rocky was her all-time favourite movie. After completing high school, she headed north to plant trees for the summer and continued her studies at Red Deer College, completing her Kinesiology and Sports Studies Diploma. Britni later travelled to Australia, where she put her tree planting skills to the test. Upon returning home, she worked for Calgary Airport Security while completing her Criminal Justice Diploma, after which she was accepted into the Canadian Armed Forces. Britni completed her basic training in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, QC, and her Military Policy Training in Borden, ON, and was then stationed in Halifax. Moved by her desire to return to Alberta to be closer with friends and family, along with the encouragement of her good friend Shawn, she applied to become a member of the Calgary Police Service. Her graduation day was very special, as hers was the last class sworn in by outgoing Chief of Police Rick Hanson. She was stationed in the Forest Lawn District of Calgary. Brit made many friends along the way, with her kind heart and brilliant smile. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. A Celebration of Life Service will be held, with Calgary Police Chaplains Jack Ashby & Miriam Mollering officiating, at the Centre Street Church, 3900-2nd Street NE, Calgary, AB on Friday April 8, 2016 at 11:00 am. Memorial tributes may be made to Big Brothers, Big Sisters (5945 Centre Street SW, Calgary AB) or AARCS Animal Shelter (3851-21 Street NE, Calgary AB).
