Richard passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 1st, 2016 at the age of 89 years. He was born in the German town of Gnadenfeld, Ukraine on November 17, 1926, the youngest of 11 children to Kristina and Philip Furst. Richard married Martha Fried on December 22, 1952 and immigrated to Canada shortly after to begin a new life in the construction industry and farming. He had a passion for hunting, fishing and his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Richard is survived by his loving wife Martha, son Kenny (Carol), grandchildren, Chelsey Bird (Chris), Christopher Yavis (Malissa), Ryan Furst (Hayley), Dustin Furst (Zoe), three great grandchildren, Colby, Emersyn and Kingston. One sister Erna Furst and several nieces and nephews in Germany. He was predeceased by his daughter, Trudy in 2010. Many thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Drumheller Health Centre for the wonderful care he received. You really were his special “Sunshines.” Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 6th, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. from the BADLANDS COMMUNITY FACILITY, 80 Veterans Way, Drumheller, Alberta. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Memory of Richard Furst to the Drumheller Area Health Foundation (Drumheller Cancer Clinic).
