It is with great sadness that the Upton family announces the peaceful passing of Myrtle Dorothy (Parks) Upton. Myrtle, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, is survived by her sons: Ron (Kathryn) and Cliff (Ida); grandsons: Jeff (Gail), Wes (Lisa), Dallas (Lynnette), Shane (Krista) and William; great grandsons: Brayden, Tyson, Jackson, Tristin, Ryder and Wyatt; sisters-in-law: Florence (Barry Gordon) and Betty; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Myrtle was predeceased by her husband: George William ‘Bud’; her parents: Olga and Oscar; her sisters: Marie, Audrey, Evelyn, and Bernice; and her great grandson: Tyler.
Mom was born in Presville, Alberta on July 10, 1921.  She was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Army and volunteered in 1942; she was stationed at the Suffield Experimental Station as a Master Seamstress with the rank of Lance Corporal.  Mom met Dad while they were both serving in World War II; they married in Edmonton on March 29, 1946 before they homesteaded in Presville, Alberta.  Then in the summer of 1958, they moved to the Upton family farm in Rumsey Alberta with their two sons – Ron and Cliff.  While living in Rumsey area, Mom was busy with her painting, gardening, teaching at the Rumsey United Church Sunday school, the Big Country Education Consortium and TOPS. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 24, 2012 at 2:00 pm in the Rumsey Community Hall with private family interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mom’s memory to: STARS, Foundation – Calgary Base, 1441 Aviation Park NE, Box 570, Calgary, AB  T2E 9Z9 or Big Valley Legion #70.
