July 15, 1937 - August 25, 2012

Doug, beloved husband of Sue, passed away August 25th, 2012 surrounded by love. Doug was born in Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland July 15th, 1937 to Alice and Thomas Wharton, immigrating to Canada in 1957. Doug was a quiet, private man with a wonderful sense of humour despite many health issues over the last few years. He loved to tease Sue, his English Rose, but always with a twinkle in his blue Irish eyes. Doug worked hard all his life, on the family farm in Tralee, his Uncle’s farm in Saskatchewan and in the Construction industry in Alberta. His real love was carpentry and fine finishing. He always had a project he was working on. Doug is now working on a new project under the direction of the Master Carpenter. Doug is survived by his wife, Sue, son Kevin (Tracy, Aidan and Keira) Wharton, stepson Christopher (Karman) Houghton, Sue’s sister and brother-in-law, Marian and Tony Forsythe in Drumheller, and his mother-in-law Thelma Smith in England, Also by Sue’s brothers, sisters, and families in England and his relatives in Ireland. Doug was predeceased by his first wife Agnes, his parents and his only sibling Eric.  “Goodnight sweetheart, I will see you in the morning”. There will be A Celebration of Life for Doug at 2:00 P.M., September 22, 2012 at St. Magloire’s Anglican Church. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Drumheller Hospital Palliative Care 351-9th Street NW Drumheller, AB T0J 0Y1, in Doug’s name would be appreciated.
