Rosa Merkel passed away at the age of 92 with her family by her side in Drumheller Continuing Care. Born Rose Mortensen, January 31, 1920, in Fors, Denmark, she moved with her family to the Dalum area in 1927, where she met and married Joe Merkel on November 12, 1943. Rosa is survived by her two daughters, Linda (Clifford) Christensen and Sandy (Joe) Sinclair, grandchildren Sheldon (Katherine), Wendell (Jodi), Tara (Norm), Tany (Rad) and 9 great grandchildren, as well as brother Neils Mortensen and many nieces and nephews. She was predeased by her parents Anna and Hans Mortensen, Viola Peters (sister), Tom Mortensen (brother) and her husband Joe Merkel of 62 years. Service is be held August 1, 2012 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Dalum at 2:00 p.m. Interment is family only. In lieu of flowers please send donations in Rosa’s name to Drumheller Continuing Care Centre. At this time of Rosa Merkel’s passing we would like to give thanks to the following; The Sunshine Lodge, Hill View Lodge and Drumheller Continuing Care Center, for their time and dedication during our time of need.
