MACPHERSON Kenneth Ross

MACPHERSON, Kenneth Ross

November 17, 1920 - May 20, 2012

Kenneth Ross Macpherson passed away at home on the farm north of Delia on May 20, 2012 at the age of 91 years. He is survived by his beloved brother and sister-in-law, Allan and Mildred, and his sister-in-law Margaret Macpherson, all of Calgary. He is also the loving uncle of Bob(Sylvia) of Cochrane, Marg (John) Bertrand of Edmonton, Bill (Karen) Macpherson of Calgary, and Janet (John) Mitchell of Saanichton, B.C. Ken is also survived by grand and great grand nieces and nephews as well as two cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Edith, and his older brother, Donald. Ken was born in Calgary on November 17, 1920 and spent most of his life on the farm. As a young man, he attended Olds Agricultural College before joining the Toronto 48th Highlanders in 1942. He fought for his country in Italy and returned after the war to take over the running of the farm, together with his brother, Allan. After Allan retired, Ken continued to run a successful farm until the day he died. This year the farm will be recognized as a Century Farm.   Ken had no children of his own, but has been very close to his nieces and nephews all their lives, and to their children. He has been loved and valued by us all and we will miss him. Ken will be fondly remembered as a very quiet yet warm and loving gentleman who was highly regarded in his community. A memorial service will be held at Delia United Church, 121 3rd Ave West on June 15 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Leila Currie officiating. A private interment will follow in the family plot in the Delia cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Delia Historical Society, the Delia Seniors’ Centre or the Delia Library. Courtney-Winters Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements (403 823 2666).
