Titans shut out McCoy in home opener

The  Senior Titans had no trouble in their home opener, knocking off the McCoy Colts from Medicine Hat/ Eagle Butte.

The Colts came to play under Friday Night Lights for the Titans home and season kick off.

The Titans’ defensive focus was key to the game playing back to front. McCoy were big and strong as expected, but Drumheller managed to keep the off the scoreboard.

Touchdowns by Aiden Enns and Noah Miles had the Titans leading 13-0 late in the third quarter. Rhett Duggan forces a safety early late in the third to go up 15-0. In the fourth, Enns carried in his second touchdown of the game.  Defense forced another safety before Mitch Ostergard carried in another as time ticked down and the Titans won 29-0.

This is only the beginning of the football action this weekend as the Drumheller Peewee Terrapins take to the field for their first of the season Saturday morning at 11 a.m. They are followed by the Bantam Titans at 1 p.m.

Police make arrests in recent property crime sprees

Drumheller RCMP have made two arrests and two more are in custody in Airdrie related to a number of rural thefts stretching from Sylvan Lake to Strathmore.

During the last couple of weeks Drumheller and area has been subject to a rash of thefts.  Subsequent investigations have led to the arrest of two persons in Airdrie who are responsible for many thefts and break and enters in and around Drumheller and Strathmore.   Airdrie RCMP is still questioning these two persons.

At present they are believed to be responsible for the theft of a truck, theft of a quad, as well as other break and enters and thefts from Drumheller alone.  A list of charges cannot be released at this time, as the informations have not been sworn.  Neither of these subjects are from Drumheller.

On Wednesday September 3, two persons were arrested in Drumheller while in possession of a stolen truck.  Subsequent investigation has linked these two persons to recent crimes in Sylvan Lake, Red Deer, Olds, Airdrie, and possibly others not yet identified.

These two persons presently stand charged with 17 offences.

Although police have not linked them to any of our initial crimes, we have them charged with several incidents of possession of stolen property, two stolen vehicles, merchant credit card / debit card reader, credit cards, cell phones, tablets, as well as other items have been recovered.

Khoda Allyn Sullivan, 29, of Kentville N.S. and a 17-year-old female from B.C., were remanded and transported to Calgary.

Both of these groups were traveling in stolen vehicles committing crimes as they went.  Should suspicious vehicles be noted, please report them to the RCMP.

How to be a Tough Mudder spectator

A Tough Mudder crew member puts the finishing touches on an obstacle up at the Stampede Grounds Wednesday, September 3.

Missing the on-line registration to watch Drumheller’s  September 6 & 7 Tough Mudder event shouldn’t be an obstacle to attending.
Spectators are able to pay $40 at the gate on either event day to go and cheer on their favourite Tough Mudder.
The Tough Mudder website lists $15 paid parking available for spectators.
“You can bring your own food, you can bring your own chairs, things like that - cameras, umbrellas,” said Tough Mudder General Manager Nick Cogger.
He adds there will also be food and beverages  for sale and a beer garden located on site at the Stampede Grounds.
Spectators are encouraged to follow the spectator routes marked out by Tough Mudder  in order to make the most of their Mudder day out.
“The suggested spectator routes will bring you to a handful of obstacles  - and we specifically put some really interesting obstacles close to the base area (course start)”, said Cogger.
“Make sure you take in a start wave, make sure you follow the spectator routes, and then, as they begin to finish, take the time to watch the Electroshock Therapy obstacle - watch people get zapped and scream and shout - it’s quite amusing.”
Cogger will be tackling the Tough Mudder obstacle course himself Friday partly for fun and partly as a test run.
There are areas along the course that spectators will be asked to keep off, mostly for their own safety, said Cogger.
“The cliffs are very steep, and the valleys are very deep. And we don’t want people getting lost or getting hurt.”
There will be Tough Mudder spectator maps at the Stampede Grounds both event days. See the full Tough Mudder obstacle course map on page 11 of the Friday, September 5 inSide Drumheller, or online at www.drumhellermail.com by clicking "Tough Mudder" at the top of the page.
