Morrin School was so excited to receive $800 from ConocoPhillips to be used towards the school’s awards ceremony. Hard work leads to Salvation Army donation

Two Drumheller hockey players have found a way to support the good work The Salvation Army does, and also showed they are up to a hard day’s work.
Last Sunday was the 22nd annual FunTeam benefit games held at the Drumheller Memorial Arena. For more than two decades young hockey players have been taking to the ice to collect donations for the Salvation Army Food Bank, and every year has been a great success for the charity and the players.
An important aspect of the annual games is the players are not encouraged just to make a donation, but to go out and earn the funds to buy groceries to give. This teaches the value of hard work and the true spirit of giving.
Nicholas Chapin is a member of the Varsity Chinook team and his brother Thomas has played with the hockey organization. They are the sons of Cam and Marnee Chapin of Munson.
On Saturday, November 21, the two were at Freson Bros. grocery store and single handily worked a barbecue to raise the funds.
Nicholas said he is grateful to Freson Bros., which supplied the barbecue supplies to allow the two boys to raise $524.
This led to a shopping spree that stuffed three shopping carts chock full of groceries for The Salvation Army Food Bank.
Nicholas says they did the same thing two years ago and felt it would be a success again this year.
“I think it is a good way to give back to the community,” said Nicholas.
