Dragons take an overtime win in game three of their playoff series against the Camrose Kodiaks



The Drumheller Dragons hosted the Camrose Kodiaks for game three of the second round playoff series between the two teams, and for the first time this season, regular and playoffs, the Dragons won against the first place team and they have Keaton Holinaty to thank for it. 
With no scoring in the first period, Camrose took advantage of a power play early in the second to take a 1-0 lead. The Dragons took no time to tie the game at 4:59 before the Kodiaks took the lead again at 6:56 leaving the score heading into the third 2-1. 
The Dragons’ captain Ryan Suchorab tied the game at 16:01 to force an overtime period. 
With just two minutes and forty-nine seconds played into the overtime period Holinaty scored his first ever Alberta Junior ‘A’ Hockey League (AJHL) playoff goal and the game winner, to give the Dragons the win they needed to stay alive in the series. 
Now that the Dragons have won game three, the series will continue Tuesday night with game four and will return to Camrose Thursday night for game five. Game six, if needed, will be Saturday night in Drumheller with game seven back in Camrose next Tuesday if needed.




Wheatland fire ban lifted

Sunday’s snow had a positive affect for residents of Wheatland County as it lifted its fire ban.

            The Mail reported in its March 11 edition that the county suspended its fire permits. Other are municipalities were also on high alert due to dry conditions.

On Friday, March 13, Wheatland County issued an all out fire ban.

A Sunday afternoon blanket of snow brought enough moisture for them to breathe easier and life the ban.

            “We appreciate the moisture,” Jim Laslo general manager of agriculture told The Mail.

He said as the weather improves and new grasses begin to sprout, it would lessen the risks going forward.

Dragons take loss in overtime in the first game of second round of the playoffs

 
The Drumheller Dragons headed to Camrose Friday night for the first game of the second round of the playoffs against the Kodiaks. 
The Dragons took a 1-0 lead early in the first, but by the end of the period it was tied 2-2. 
The Dragons scored two straight goals in the second but Camrose scored with less than five minutes left to make the score 4-3 going into the third. 
The Kodiaks tied the game forcing an overtime period, but at 12:34 of the overtime period the Kodiaks scored winning the game. 
The second game in the series is Saturday night in Camrose before the series comes to Drumheller on Monday March 16 and Tuesday March 17.
