Dragons continue to build with new signings

The Drumheller Dragons continue to work on filling out their roster for  the upcoming season and have signed two more players.

The Dragons have selected defenseman Joey Raats and forward Stephen Doane.

“Stephen Doane is a very gifted player offensively, who skates very well.  A smaller player who moves well and is not afraid to go to the tough areas, has great character and I look forward to watching his growth and helping him achieve his goals,” head coach Brian Curran commented.  “We welcome Stephen to the Dragons Family.”

Doane is a 1993 born, 5’7”, 155 lb forward.  Doane played for the Calgary AAA Royals in the 2011-12 season.  As a AAA Royal, Doane compiled 13 goals and 18 assists for 31 points in 33 regular season games, with 28 penalty minutes.

“I liked Brian’s honest and open approach to coaching.  I feel I can make a significant contribution to the Drumheller team,” said Doane.  “I feel Brian has the team heading in a winning direction and I am excited about living in Drumheller.  Drum offers me the best opportunity to contribute right away and help improve the hockey team.”

Curran likes what defenseman Joey Raas brings to the Dragons.

“I am pleased to have Joey join our family here with the Dragons. Joey will be a great addition to our defense core.  I look forward to helping Joey attain his goals as a player, and an individual.  It’s always great when you get young men with ability and great character,” said Curran.

Raats is a 1995 born 5’11” 170 lb defenseman.  He played for the Lethbridge AAA Pronghorns in the 2011-12 season.  Raats had 4 goals 10 assists for 14 points in 17 games played with 16 penalty minutes.

Raats added, “I am working extremely hard to prepare for the upcoming season and really looking forward to working with Brian Curran to get me to the next level.”
