Girls volleyball team hoping to serve a first place at weekend tournament

The Drumheller Valley Secondary School’s senior girls volleyball team is heading to Strathmore this weekend for the last invitational tournament this year.

So far in the tournaments the DVSS girls have participated in, they’ve made respectable showings. The DVSS girls typically compete against seven to nine other teams.
“We’ve made it to quarter finals in most tournaments,” said head coach Dawn Sullivan. “We’re batting 500, shall we say.”
For the Strathmore tournament, the girls are continuing the improvements they’ve been working on so far this semester. “Now that we’re near the end of the year, we’re hoping the team will peak,” added Sullivan.
The Strathmore tournament is the last before the team competes for the Regionals. The DVSS girls will have to place greater than sixth in this area to advance.
The competition in Strathmore at the Regionals will be fierce. “A couple teams from Three Hills are pretty strong, so there will be some stiff competition there,” warned Sullivan.
