Condolences to the family of Sarah Elizabeth Hodgson

October 9, 1923 - April 15, 2018

Betty passed away peacefully at her home on the farm acreage near Rowley, Alberta at the age of 94 years. Betty will be lovingly remembered by her very close sister, Greta Ramsbottom of England, her son, John (Beverly) of Red Deer, her son, Alan (Florence) of Drumheller, her daughter, Lyn (Ken) Langstaff of Sherwood Park; grandchildren, Lesley (Andrew) Tetz, Christine Barkley, Sheldon (Tina) Hodgson, Lena (Jason) Hansen, Derek (Kristina) Hodgson, Sarah Chomas (Jesse Sieppert), Curtis Chomas, Angela (Tyson) Morrie, Josh Langstaff (Gillian) and Crystal (John) Fox; 21 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Betty was predeceased by her husband Len and by her 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Betty was raised in the Lancaster area of England and after her schooling worked for 9 years before moving to Canada to marry Len (the love of her life). Betty met Len when he was stationed in England with the Canadian Army during WW2 and after their marriage in Calgary, took up residence farming west of Rowley, where they raised their family. Betty has always had a great passion for all types of dancing, especially for square dancing, round dancing, and ballroom dancing. Betty began teaching dance at home on the farm and later progressed to teaching in halls and school gymnasiums. She later taught ballroom dancing for Further Education assisted by her daughter Lyn. Betty had a remarkable ability to make a special connection with everyone she met and her lovable ways will be sadly missed by all that knew her. A Memorial Service for Betty will be held Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 3:00 P.M. at the Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Carlos Calderon officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Charity of ones’ choice. Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Homes are in care of the arrangements.

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Alvin McLean after a lengthy battle with chronic illness. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jacquie McLean, 3 children and 4 grandchildren; Danna (Rod) Nelson and their children Bradley and Erica; Darren (Susan) McLean and Dawna McLean and her children Christopher and Sara. We would like to thank those who took the time to come and see him and make his time at the hospital a little easier. There will be no service per Alvin’s wishes.

Lois Evelyn Hiller (nee Colter) age 81, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loving family and friends on April 13, 2018. Lois was born on September 16, 1936 in Drumheller to her parents, Clayton and Marjorie Colter. She trained in the Drumheller Hospital and worked for a decade and a half as a Medical Records Technician in Drumheller and numerous Calgary area hospitals. In 1964, she married Glen Hiller, and they moved to Calgary (1966), where they started their family and lived until 1982 when they moved onto the Hiller family farm at Ghost Pine Creek (Three Hills). Lois gladly and willingly retired from her career (1970) to be a full-time stay-at-home mother and homemaker, which she considered her primary and most important natural calling. Lois was known for her patience and gentleness, and her ability to make others feel loved and cared for. She was always up for a cup of tea and a good visit, revealing her genuine interest in each and every person in her life and those she crossed paths with. Lois is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lyle and Roxane Hiller (Three Hills); her daughter and son-in-law, Lana and Richard Lauder (Airdrie); her beloved grandchildren Chantelle Hiller and Chris Petterson (along with great grandson Kayden), Clay Hiller, Jenae Lauder, and Jaden Lauder; her brother and sister-in-law, Leroy and Lois Colter (High River); and her niece, Melanie MacLean (Minburn). She is predeceased by her parents, Clayton and Marjorie, her husband Glen, her sister June MacLean, and her niece, Cindy MacLean. Funeral arrangements will be announced.
