LONG, James Arthur
July 9, 1944 - May 13, 2011

It is with great sadness and peace of mind that we announce the passing of Jim on May 13, surrounded by love in the palliative care unit in Drumheller, Alberta at the age of 66, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Drumheller and grew up, worked and raised his family in the surrounding area, marrying the love of his life Mickie in 1965. He was proud to be a farmer and licensed mechanic and served many customers and friends faithfully for 46 years. He had a great love for fixing, building, inventing and he was an innovator, modifying and improving anything he could. He also served his community wherever he lived especially through many years with the local Elks clubs. Besides his wife Mickie, his children Angela (Bruce) Martin, Dawn (Kevin) Kuechle, and Danny (Misty) Long will miss his quiet love.  Holding a special place in their hearts for love and mischief his grandchildren Timothy, Elizabeth, Tabitha, Riley, Reese, Christepher, and Katrina will carry on in his honor. He will also be sadly missed by his mother Mary Long and his sisters Elsie (Brian) Littlejohns, Kay (Doug) Richards, Patty (Terry) Blocksom and his brother Ken Long as well as his sisters-in-law Susan (Tex) Cheese, Judy Mudge, and Linn (Merv) Ko. He was predeceased by his father Ivan Long. He will also be missed by many family and friends as he always opened the shop doors or home to everyone who needed a hand. The family would like to thank Dr. Rutz for her dedicated care and support of both Jim and the family through his illness. We would also like to thank the dedicated staff at the Drumheller Hospital for constant care and attention they provided Jim especially during the last week of his life; they have provided us continuous support and at the end gave us great comfort. You have touched our lives in profound ways and the words “thank you” are so inadequate for what you have given us. We will never forget your skill, professionalism, kindness and care, and for being the healing calm in the midst of our medical chaos.  Prayer services were held Tuesday, May 17 at 7 p.m at Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 18 at 11 a.m at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Drumheller Hospital. Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Chapel entrusted with arrangements.
