Joan Emily Agar slipped quietly away on Thursday, December 2, 2010 in the Drumheller Extended Care in her ninetieth year.  Joan was the first Soldier Settler’s child born on the Pope Lease, NW ¼ 30, Twp. 29, Rge. 21 W4M, Farm No. 30 on Tuesday, December 14, 1920 the first and only child of Robert Elmer Agar and his English First World War bride, Mabel Draper. Joan attended the Beveridge Lake School and had a happy childhood on the farm with her horse, chickens, turkeys, dogs and cats.  Joan was an accomplished pianist and played the piano for the Salvation Army meetings in the late 1930’s and early 1940’s. She also played the guitar and taught herself Pitman shorthand and typing.   She moved into Drumheller with her parents.  Their house was on the south side of Drumheller where the Extra Foods Shopping Centre is today.  The family also lived in Merritt, B. C. for a short time before returning to Drumheller. Joan was very active, walking and gardening.  She was also very health conscious and lived in her own home despite her deteriorating vision until 2004 when she moved to the Sunshine Lodge in Drumheller. She was predeceased by her mother in 1976, her father in 1992 and at least 12 first cousins from her father’s family.  She is survived by her first cousins Victor Stockdale, Donald Agar, and at least 8 other first cousins.  A Funeral Service will be held at the Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Chapel, on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. with interment and reception to follow.  The family would especially like to thank Dr. Miller for his unfailing, outstanding, compassionate care and friendship of Joan over the years as her family doctor.
