DROPKO, Olga Marian
(nee Janswick)
October 11, 1927 – August 8, 2010

Olga Dropko passed away on August 8, 2010 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary from a sudden lung infection turned into pneumonia.  She was 82 years old and will be remembered fondly by all who knew her. Olga was born in Byemoor, Alberta and lived most of her life in Rosedale where her family moved when she was very young.  She spent her last three years in Calgary with her daughter Romona and the previous three years in Midland with her son Drew as well as a couple years in Edmonton when she and Andy were first married in 1950. She coined the phrase “domestic engineer” when referring to her profession as a home maker.  She was passionate about her children, gardening, cooking and baking.  Her adopted children were her pride and joy and she says her reason for being here on earth.  In the early years Olga loved to garden, can and pickle anything and everything from the garden.  Add to that, big family dinners and two freezers full of baking and Olga was in her glory.  She made theme cakes for family and community events with the help of Andy’s artistry and she even enjoyed baking right up until the week before she passed away. Olga was a caring daughter, sister, mother and good friend.  She is predeceased by her husband Andy on November 19, 2004 and her son Drew on June 14, 2007 as well as her siblings William (Bill) Janswick and Mary Macy, and parents Michael and Margarete Janswick.  She is survived by her daughter Romona of Calgary, brother-in-law John Macy of Drumheller, brother-in-law Albert Dropko and his wife Laurette of Edmonton and numerous aunts, nieces and nephews and their families all located in Western Alberta. At Olga’s request a private service was held at Courtney-Winters Funeral home in Drumheller on Friday, August 27, 2010 and she and her son Drew were interned with her mother Margarete Janswick at the Drumheller Cemetery on Monday, August 30, 2010. Donations may be made in her honor to the Canadian Lung Association or Heart and Stroke Foundations.
