Ruth Mildred Zakariasen (Grass), beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at the age of 84. She has been reunited with her parents Mildred and Harold Grass, beloved husband, Harvey and sister, Neva Wilson. Ruth will be lovingly remembered by her four children: sons Don (Gloria), Ron (Connie), Jerry (Brigitte) and daughter Janet (Jean) Chabot and grandchildren: Lori (Bennett) Suba, Amy (Dallas Butcher) Zakariasen, Laura (Mitch Wiebe) Chabot, Julie (Cody)Thoring, Paul Chabot, Cynthia, Jeffrey, Chantelle, Bradley, and Brianna Zakariasen and great grandchildren Connor and Grady Suba, and Griffin Butcher. Ruth was born in Drumheller and grew up on a farm near Munson with her sisters Lola, Mona, Neva and Anne. As a young woman, she taught in several one room schools until she married Harvey Zakariasen in 1947 and together they raised their family on the Zakariasen ranch in the Handhills. Ruth and Harvey moved to their retirement home in Drumheller in 1979, where she spent many hours doing volunteer work for the Knox United Church. Family was Ruth’s number one priority. Her life centered on supporting her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Society of Southern Alberta or Foothills Country Hospice in Okotoks, AB. Funeral services will be held in the Knox United Church in Drumheller, AB on Saturday, May 29 at 3:00 PM.
