Carl Albert (Bert) Marshall, born February 2, 1915, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2009 in Long Term Care at the Hanna Health Centre at the age of 94 years. He was predeceased by his daughter Arlene, his parents John and Jean Masciangelo, sisters Anne McAuliffe, Violet, Jean, and brothers Mike and Art.  He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 68 years Florence, sons Richard (Connie), Ramsay (Linda) and Gino (Carrie), daughters Bev (Ray), Connie (Larry), Norrain (Brad), Anna (Cary), Wanda (Kevin), Vicky (Bob) and 15 grandchildren,  9 great grandchildren and 4 god children.  He is also survived by his sisters Mary Long, Edith Larson, Irene McKay, Kay Robertson, Lorraine Cooney, Josie Roline, Elsie Limpert, sister in law Maude Marshall, sister in law Alvina Hawthorne and numerous nieces and nephews.  Bert worked in the coal mines in the Hand Hills until he joined the army in 1941.  He met his wife to be Florence Imler in 1936 and married her on April 20, 1941. Bert went overseas for four and a half years and returned to East Coulee where he worked at the Atlas Coal Mine for two years.  His brother Art asked him to help at the John Deere Dealer in Delia where he moved.  Bert bought his first and only farm in 1950 where he remained until November 2003. He then moved into Delia.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a Legion member for 57 years.  During that time, he was chairman of the Poppy Fund and Zone Commander for 8 years.  He was a resident at the Long Term Care in Hanna Alberta from 2006 until his passing. Prayers held at St. George’s Church in Hanna on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 7:00 p.m. with funeral to follow on Friday, Oct. 9 at 11:00 a.m.  Interment, Delia Cemetery with lunch to follow at the Delia Community Centre.  Donations may be made to the Long Term Care at the Hanna Health Centre or to charities of one’s choice.
