Shirley-Ann May passed away peacefully with family  by her bedside on May 17, 2009 at the age of 64 years at the Foothills Medical Center ICU. She is survived by her husband Douglas, children Dale (Debbie, Dwayne (Arlene) and Michelle Addo (Stephen); grandchildren Megan, Katie, Emily Barnard, James, Sophia, Francis Barnard; Stephen Jr., Amanda, Ashley, Aviva, Vivica Addo; Great Granddaughter Jayda; siblings Walter (Carmen), Herb (Pat), Dorothy Allan (Don), Douglas predeceased (Linda) and Dennis, Henry Rathler (Sheila), George Rathler (Leah), Roy Barnard predeceased (Flora) and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Shirley was born in Hanna and grew up and attended school in Drumheller; after her marriage to Doug Barnard and several re-locations they ultimately settled in Acme, Alberta in 1976 where they raised three children. Shirley was very active in the community with the Royal Purple, Rebekah’s, Acme Angels, Acme Seniors and the Acme United Church. Her dedicated community service was recognized by several awards, the most notable is “The Meritorius Award” from the Rebekah Assembly of Alberta and “The Acme & District Community Service Award”. Shirley was predeceased by her parents William and Marjorie Ewing in 1981 and 2004; brother Douglas in 1998, nephew Herb Ewing in 2000 and brother in law Roy Barnard in 2008. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and volunteers at the Foothills Medical Center Intensive Care Unit. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to STARS. The celebration of Shirley’s life was held Monday, May 25, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Acme Community Centre with Reverend Leslie Ann Searles officiating.
