Lawrence (Lou) Kenneth Brown was born on October 17, 1959 and passed away on April 9th, 2009.  He was predeceased by his father, Kenneth Hugh Brown (February 20, 1974), his mother, Esther Brown (February 1, 2006) and a nephew, Taylor Brown (June 1, 1997).  Lou is survived by two siblings:  a brother, Darwyn (Roxy) of Red Deer and a sister, Nola Brown of Drumheller. Lou was the first born child to Ken and Esther Brown of the Handhills community, east of Drumheller.  He was known in his younger years as Lawrence, or Lawrie to family and friends. Good friend, Bob Karmanisky dubbed him “Lou”.  High school years were full of learning about cars, working at Revy and honing his building skills.  After graduating from DCHS in 1977, Lou moved to Edmonton to attend Northwest Bible College.  Lou picked up a part time job at the Sears Warehouse as a swamper, which led to a full time job.  Lou was introduced to the oilfield world in 1981 when he moved to Lloydminster to work for Tom Plant in a pump jack service shop.  Lou moved to Bonnyville in the 1980’s  to begin working for Legrande Oilfield Services.  Lou was intrigued by the workings of pump jacks and immersed himself in the task of learning as much as he could on the subject.  After 20 plus years of pulling wrenches and many name changes of the company, Lou accomplished the feat of becoming an expert in his field of pump jack service.  Service of Remembrance will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bonnyville Baptist Church, Bonnyville, Alberta with Pastor Harald Froise officiating.  Eulogy given by Darwyn Brown, tribute given by Ed Plant and scripture reading by Lloyd Brown.  Honorary Urnbearers: Ed Plant, Rick Dokter, Lloyd Brown, Glen Soloway, Richard Mashon, Ken Mashon, Terry Evans, Dennis Kuhn, Don Musselman.  A graveside service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on April 26, 2009 at Craigmyle, Alberta.  Memorial tributes in memory of Lou may be made to the Bonnyville Baptist Church, 4111-43 Avenue, Bonnyville, AB T9N 1S7 or Children’s Services Centre, 4826-47 Street, Red Deer, AB T4N 1R2; web address: www.childrenservices.ca/.  Please send condolences to memento@telus.net.
