ZIEMMER, Ray

ziemmer_ray.jpgIt is with great sadness that the family of Ray Ziemmer announce his passing on December 14, 2008. Ray was born at the Craigmyle farm on Dec. 23, 1931. He attended school in Craigmyle, Drumheller and Three Hills and eventually earned his teaching certificate at the U of A in Edmonton as well as an Agri-business certificate from Mt. Royal College in Calgary. His work led him down many paths in the fields of banking, seismography, teaching, consulting and finally back to his true love - farming, which he did for over 55 years. He had an incredible thirst for knowledge and a fun-loving sense of adventure. He was always willing to try anything! Ray was very involved in his community, serving as a board member for the Craigmyle Credit Union and on the board of directors for the Princeton and Victor communities as well as the Alberta Simmental Association. He was also very involved in local 4-H clubs for many years. He loved helping others. Ray’s great passions in life were his family, his friends and his farm. He took great pride in his farming, especially his cattle and machinery. He had an immense love of nature and animals and was happiest when surrounded by this and his family. Ray was predeceased by his father John, an infant sister Esther, daughter Barb, and son-in-law Ken. He is survived by his mother Bessie, wife Cherrone, daughters Judy Ziemmer (Daryl Unsworth), Lorene (Larry) Stulberg, Karen (Allen) Reid, Leanne (Jim) Sorensen, Lorna (Morris) Schilling, son Shane, son-in-law Scott Tollestrup, grandchildren Alicia (Cody) Scheerschmidt, Krystal Stulberg, Ariel, Kaiden and Teagan Reid, Kyle, Chad and Grace Sorensen, Lorisa, Kourtney and Shayla Schilling, great grandchildren Hayden and Easton Scheerschmidt, sisters Annabelle Hughes and Betty Friesen, their families, and his in-laws, Lester and Betty Battle. Ray will be greatly missed by family, friends and all who knew him. At Ray’s request there will be no funeral service, and an inurnment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. 52p
