wilton.jpgDoug Wilton passed away on Wednesday, October 1 in Kelowna General Hospital at the age of 77 years. Doug was born and raised in Drumheller. He received his schooling in Drumheller. Doug worked in the trucking industry for many years. He was involved in many sporting groups and was a member of The Drumheller Miner’s Hockey Team, taking the part of trainer and equipment manager very seriously. One of the highlights of Doug’s life was being able to attend the induction of his beloved Miners into the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame in June of 2008.  Doug and Doris moved to B.C. in 1980 where he became very involved in community organizations. He was an avid Lake Country Lions Club member. He served in many roles in the club including two terms as President, and was chosen ‘Lion of the Year’. His most coveted honour is the Judge Brian Stevenson award for service to his community. This dedication made Doug a very special person to the people and his community. No job was too big or too small for Doug to take on and see through to the end, with great ambition. Doug and Doris were also very involved in the Horseshoe Club and won many awards at local, provincial and national level. They were always happy to arrange the Horseshoe tournaments at family reunions and made sure everyone who wanted to play were able to do so no matter what age. Doug leaves behind to mourn his loss, his wife Doris; children, sons, Ken, Dale (Allana), Rob (Kathy), Lonnie (Debbie), Pat (Joanne) and Shane (Lynn) and daughter Julie; his brothers, Jim (Frances), Bill, Ken and Gord (Shirley) of Drumheller and Bob (Marie) of Kelowna, B.C; sister, Barb Campbell of Drumheller; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Doug was predeceased by his parents, Mabel and Bill; and sister Bonnie Smith. A Celebration of Doug’s life will be held on Saturday, October 25 at 1:00 p.m. at the Senior Center in Winfield, B.C.
