Mary Rose

October 29, 1929 - January 24, 2022

Mary Rose Davis was born on October 29, 1929 on the family farm near Morrin, Alberta to E. Frank and Ella Davis. She spent her younger years on the farm and attended school in Morrin, Alberta where she made her life-long friend Mary Waters Pearson. Her family moved to Drumheller when she was fifteen and she finished high school in Drumheller. She went on to the University of Alberta taking a one-year course in teacher training. She began her teaching career in 1949 at age 19 in a one-room school in Webb (Carbon) and Hillsgreen (near Morrin). In 1950 she moved to the larger school in Munson, Alberta. She loved teaching and developed close bonds with her students and in particular her grade one class. She married Clark Daly in 1952 and they took over the family farm near Munson. In 1957 they moved into Munson when Clark began working as an agent for the Pioneer Grain Company. Together she and Clark raised 5 children. Both were active community and church members. Mary began substitute teaching in the late 1960’s and in the early 1970's began working with the MD of Starland. Over the years she worked for Schumacher Madden as a legal secretary and Laredo Drilling as office manager. Clark passed away in 1983 and Mary moved to Drumheller. In 1990 she married J. Edward (Ed) Francis. They made their home in Red Deer, travelling south to Arizona for winters. Mary and Ed moved to Drumheller in 2005. Ed passed away in 2017. Mary moved to Sunshine Lodge that year and later to Hillview. In 2020 she was transferred to Continuing Care in Stettler and then Drumheller. She passed away on January 24, 2022 at the age of 92 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Ella and Frank Davis, husband Clark Daly, her siblings Edna Lorraine, Mrytle, Lamont and Arthur, her granddaughters Rayle Stern, Amberlei Brock, and great-granddaughter Britney Donahue, her husband Ed Francis.
