FAY
Helen

October 6, 1927 - October 21, 2017

Helen passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at the age of 90 years. Helen’s final days were spent at the Drumheller Hospital in Palliative Care with her children at her side. Helen was born on the farm in Carmel, SK, where she attended Mt. Carmel school and later, Sacred Heart Academy in Yorkton. She competed in many sports, but her favorite sport, in which she excelled, was fastball. Helen was devoted to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. Her father, John Bunko, had donated a portion of land to the church which is still used by St. Peter’s Abbey for pilgrimage every year. Helen’s family was most important to her, she was a stay at home mom until her children were in school, then went to work at the Calgary General Hospital. In 1975, Helen moved from Calgary to Drumheller where she managed a motel for 20 years. Helen will be lovingly missed by her daughter, Grace; sons, Jim, Garry (Twila) and Terry; grandchildren, Diana (Dan) and Brett, Trent and Tristan (Tallen); great grandchildren, Taya and Kane; sisters-in-law, Myrna, Marie, Darlene and Elizabeth; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, John and Alice Bunko; husband, John; sisters, Anne (Harry), Katie (Nick) and Nettie (Nick); brothers, Matt, Bill (Dorthy), Roman, Tony (Mackie), Nick and Mike. The family would like to thank Dr. Olfert & Barb Trumpour, Dr. Beach, Dr. Diaz, Inez (her Angel) and the rest of the nursing staff who cared for our mom. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony’s Church, 151 – 3 Street W., Drumheller, AB on Friday, October 27, 2017 at 11:00 am. A Private Interment will be held at Sacred Heart Columbarium in Calgary, AB. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.myalternatives.ca.
