(nee Swallow)

February 20, 1930 Rowley, Alberta -  September 27, 2017 Calgary, Alberta

Joyce Hobbs (nee Swallow) was reunited with her husband of nearly sixty-four years, when she passed away peacefully at the age of 87 years on Friday, September 27, 2017. Joyce was born and raised on the family farm in Rowley, Alberta where she also eventually married the love of her life, Allan Hobbs. Allan’s career required them to live in the city but Joyce was a prairie girl at heart. So, after Allan retired, they spent most summers planting and tending a garden on their Rowley property and socializing with family and friends. Joyce was instrumental in preserving Rowley’s history, collecting artifacts and creating exhibits in the old school house and museum. Joyce enjoyed playing cards, especially Crib and Yahtzee. She loved gardening and her home looked like a greenhouse, with bountiful plants in every room. Joyce won many awards at rural competitions for her magnificent potted flower entries. As a couple, Joyce and Allan were very sociable, participating in church activities, round and square-dancing, curling, bowling and golfing; but Joyce was really in her ‘element’ as a mother and homemaker, baking and sewing. When a relative needed a place to live, Joyce welcomed them with open arms. Joyce will forever be remembered and cherished by her loving family; sons Rory and Scott (Judy), and daughter Coralee Hobbs. Joyce was blessed with six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored and enjoyed more than anything. Joyce was predeceased by her loving husband Allan, and daughter Shona Bishop. Funeral Services will be held at St. David’s United Church (3303 Capitol Hill Crescent N.W.) on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 1:00p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Many charities benefited from Joyce’s generosity so if desired, please donate to a charity close to your heart, in her memory. In living memory of Joyce Hobbs, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, Telephone: 403-276-2296.
