“The forest of life is overgrown with uncertainty. It is a place where placid pools, and sun-dappled glens rest beside thorny brambles and shadowed caverns where a web of highways stretch unendingly beyond sight to destinations unknown” (Jim Sheddy).
To say that Jim Sheddy was unforgettable is an understatement. To those who knew him he will always hold a spot in their hearts that no other person can touch. He had a smile that was contagious and had an open heart to all who crossed his path. Jim would go out of his way to help a stranger, a family member or friend without ever thinking twice. Friendship with Jim was a never-ending whirlwind of adventure. He could turn even the most mundane of tasks into exhilarating escapes. Jim was a man of action, when he got an idea in his head he made it happen, whether that was spontaneous road trips, moving across the world, pursuing an acting career, starting a business or simply all his quick trips to 7-11 for his three slurpee-a-day addiction. Jim attended St. Anthony’s Elementary and Jr. high school in Drumheller. He took part in an exchange to Belgium for half the school year and graduated from Drumheller Composite High School in 1995. He carried on post-secondary Education at the University of British Columbia. Jim’s travels took him to faraway places like Belgium, Paris, London, Chicago and Los Angeles, but they never took him away from himself. He always remained a truly kind, compassionate, and generous person. He kept all his loved ones updated with his hand written letters and post cards sharing his stories and the exciting goings on wherever he was. Jim owned and operated Sheddy’s Beer and Wine on Fairfax Avenue in Hollywood California for a number of years where many of his friends and family went to visit him. He would welcome them with a hug, a big smile and a free drink of choice. His Canada Day celebrations at the bar were the stuff of legend. He recently sold the bar and returned to Canada to be closer to his family. Jim is survived by his mother Marjo Sheddy, and father Bill Sheddy. His sisters Loreina, Jenny, and Kelsey and his brother Patrick. Uncle Jim will be greatly missed by his nephews Jadin and Oliver and nieces, Madyson, Toni and Emma. Memories will be forever cherished by many other cousins, aunts and uncles, and the host of friends around the world. Jim was pre-deceased by his grandparents Ossie and Florence Sheddy of Drumheller, AB, and Betty and Gust DeJong of Calgary, AB. Jim was a man of courage, a man of adventure and a man who was extremely brave. He learned from many and carried those moments of connection throughout his journey. Be grateful you knew him, and be kind to yourself always. Each moment spent with him created a path to all our memories. He is looking down on all of us grinning that amazing Jim Sheddy smile and he is okay. He is more than okay, he is shining and continuing his story. Jim Sheddy finished his path himself with his own words……… “The White Knight strove to rid the world of evil by carving a path through the blackest thorns and succeeded only in scarring his heart with their venom. Through the White’s Knight’s process of self-discovery he conquered the evil that had only truly existed within. In confronting imperfections, the soul was purged of evil and the inherent righteousness of man allowed to bloom a thousand white roses in the brambles.”

The family are very appreciative of the kind words and thoughts expressed personally as well as on social media. Memorial Services will be held in Drumheller at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Drumheller Public Library or your favorite charity in Jim’s name.
