BROWN, JOAN
July 13, 1925 - December 22, 2016
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Brown on December 22, 2016 at the age of 91 years with her loving family at her side. Joan was born on July 13th, 1925 in Harrogate, England. Joan met Jack in London, England during WWII and married on March 20, 1945. Their first daughter Shirley was born in England. In June 1946, Joan and Shirley boarded the Queen Mary and sailed to Pier 21 at Halifax, N.S. Then took the train to Calgary to meet Jack. Joan spent most of her life farming in the Hesketh/Pope Lease area. Joan will be lovingly remembered by her three daughters; Gail (Larry) Mortimer, Jacqueline (Larry) Michta, Sheila (Bill) Gibson, one son; Clayton (Tammi) Brown, seven grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. Joan was predeceased by her husband, Jack, and her first born daughter, Shirley. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Knox United Church. If so desired donations may be made, in memory of Joan, to Hanna Continuing Care, Hanna, Alberta or the charity of choice. Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Homes are in care of the arrangements.
