Her Children Arise and Call her Blessed - Proverbs 31:28

Corinne was born in Vanguard, Saskatchewan. She was the third child of Emil and Ellen Erickson. In 1927, they moved to a farm near Southey, Saskatchewan. She attended Snarum School – a one-room schoolhouse. She excelled as a student and attended high school in Southey and then normal school in Regina. At the young age of 17, she gladly accepted a teaching post in rural Saskatchewan. When she was 18, she joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. After the war, she attended the University of Saskatchewan and returned to teaching. She taught in several rural schools until she found herself teaching in Wilkie, Saskatchewan in 1949. She became good friends with Doris Rivett, and even better friends with Doris’ brother - Lloyd. They fell in love and were married in 1950. They were blessed with three daughters: Laurie (Dale) Innocent (Kelly, Kenny, Erin, Ryan and Adrienne); Pat Barker (Krista and Tanya); and Peggy (Don) Blacklock. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Corinne was always there to listen and readily help in times of need. She was generous and caring. An excellent cook and baker, she created sweet memories of a house filled with love and the wonderful aroma of fresh baked bread! She enjoyed reading, camping, cards, NHL hockey, and word puzzles. In Wilkie, she and Lloyd successfully operated a Royalite. She was involved with Church and Legion ladies groups. In Rockglen, she served as a Recreation Board Member and Girl Guide Leader, and hosted home Bible studies. The family moved to Carbon, AB in 1974, where she taught for several years and received her Bachelor of Education degree. Corinne loved teaching English and French and had a special place in her heart for her special education class. Her love and commitment to these children made a significant difference in their young lives. After she retired to Drumheller in 1982, she worked at several jobs including the Royal Tyrrell Museum and Drumheller Institution. She served as a deaconess at Drumheller Alliance Church. She is lovingly remembered and will be deeply missed by 3 daughters, 7 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, her sister Florence Moore, brother-in-law Mason Simmons, sisters-in-law Francis and Betty Rivett, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Lloyd, and sisters Helen Erickson and Shirley Wiley. A funeral service will be held at Drumheller Alliance Church on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to World Vision. Messsges of condolence may be left for the family at www.myalternatives.ca
