HERMAN, Matilda “Tilly” Minnie

October 28, 1927 - Drumheller, AB
- June 29, 2015 - Drumheller, AB

It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of my mom, Tilly, on June 29, 2015 at the age of 87. She lived her entire life, aside from a short period in Saskatoon, in East Coulee and Drumheller. Mom was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She stoically faced life challenges which included the passing of her husband, my dad Bill, at the age of 55, the passing of her mother, Minnie, the passing of her son, Randy, and the passing of her brothers John and Tom. Her surviving brothers, Henry, Ernie and Eddie held a special place in her heart. Mom enjoyed watching sports. Much to my chargrin, she was always a devoted fan of the Calgary Stampeders and Calgary Flames. Mom was always physically active. She bowled for over 46 years, maintaining each year it would be her last year. She bowled not because she excelled at , as she did not, but because she enjoyed the people she bowled with. Mom’s two greatest passions were curling and gardening. She curled for over 60 years. She enjoyed the game immensely. Unlike bowling, she excelled at curling. She enjoyed every facet of the game, but most of all she enjoyed the people that curled and the friendships that developed. Each year she waited with anticipation for the ice to be ready. When the curling season ended, the gardening season began. She worked tirelessly in her yard growing vegetables and flowers. Weeds were her enemy and they never stood a chance. She was a wonderful mom. It was an honour and a privilege to be her son. There will be a family memorial at a later date. Courtney-Winters Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements (403 823 2666).
