FISHER Yvonne Gladys

FISHER, Yvonne Gladys

January 23, 1944 - March 20, 2014

It is with great sadness we announce that we have lost a dear wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Yvonne passed away after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.  We believe she won because she is free from pain. Yvonne’s infectious smile lives on through those who met her. Yvonne is survived by her husband Jim Fisher of Drumheller; two daughters: Sandra Sidoroff (Randy Sidoroff) and Wendy Wagner (Winston Wing) of Peace River; one step-daughter, Keoma McMurren of Edmonton and one step-son, Jim Fisher of Vancouver; three grandchildren, Chris and Kyle McMurren of Edmonton and Robyn Sidoroff of Peace River; three sisters: Leslie Berezowsky of Edmonton, Nora  Odette (Rick MacKay) of Westmeath, Ontario and JoAnne Odette (Steve Wagner) of Vancouver.
Yvonne worked in Peace River at the RCMP detachment and became a business partner at Fred’s Heating. During this time she was elected to Peace River Town Council. Yvonne became General Manager of the Land of the Mighty Peace Tourist Association prior to moving to Drumheller in 1981 where she became General Manager of the Big Country Tourist Association.  Later she became Payroll Administrator at the Royal Tyrrell Museum Cooperating Society and accountant with the Canadian Badlands Passion Play Society. Despite her work, Yvonne enjoyed many hours of volunteering and could always be counted on as someone to lean on and as a caring friend.
Yvonne dedicated 44 years to the Royal Purple where she was Past Honoured Royal Lady in Peace River and Drumheller and served as District Deputy and Provincial Treasurer.
Yvonne’s love of travel was immense. She travelled from the Arctic Circle by plane, to the tropics by boat, across land by train, to space with the Kennedy Space Centre and at high speeds with NASCAR. Yvonne was also passionate about her beloved Edmonton Eskimos and would find humour when she was reminded of her reactions to them losing a game.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 2 pm at Knox United Church in Drumheller with Harold Hunter officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Drumheller Area Health Foundation 351- 9th Street NW, Drumheller, AB T0J 0Y1 or STARS Foundation 1441 Aviation PK NE Box 570, Calgary, AB T2E 9Z9.
