Frederick Joseph Koester of Rockyford, Alberta passed away on January 22, 2014. Fred is survived by his loving family; his wife Twena; sons Chris and Blake; sisters Rosemarie (Ivan) Walls, and Teresa (David) Feist; brothers Jim (Rhonda) Koester, and Richard (Chiri) Koester; sisters-in-law Jenny (David) Beniuk, Ann (Tim) Hand, Dianne Shymanski and Crystal Primrose; as well as many nieces and nephews. Fred was pre-deceased by his son Steven; parents Herman and Margaret; his brother Gerald; his sister Kathleen; and brothers-in-law Thomas Walls, and Bill Shymanski. Fred was born on April 28, 1945 in Calgary, Alberta. He completed his education at St. Rita’s and Rockyford Public School. After school he farmed with his father until 1974. Fred married Twena Shymanski on November 21, 1970 at St. Rita’s Catholic Parish in Rockyford. They had three sons which Fred was very proud of. He continued to farm with his son Chris on their farm south of Rockyford. Fred was a Third Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He loved to make people laugh; teasing and playing practical jokes. He touched many people’s lives and always brought a smile to everyone’s face. A special thanks to all the nurses at the Foothills Hospital for taking care of Fred and his family while he was there. A Prayer Service was held on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, Rockyford at 7:30 p.m. A Memorial Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, January 27, 2014 also at St. Rita’s Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. If family and friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made directly to the Foothills Medical Centre Site Office (AC 136 Special Services Building, 1403 – 29th Street N.W., Calgary, T2N 2T9) or to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation (#200, 119 – 14th Street N.W., Calgary, T2N 1Z6).
