Council approves fountain filtration system

Town Council is moving forward with repairs to the fountain at Rotary Park, for people to enjoy for years to come.
Council awarded a contract to Pinnacle Aquatic Group in the amount of $145,149.95 at the November 2 regular Council meeting. This is

for repairs and the addition of a filtration system to bring the fountain up to requirements specified by Alberta Health Services.
“This is more of a band-aid, not a complete fix, but it is a fix that will keep it going five years,” said Mayor Terry Yemen.
Preliminary work will be done before freeze up and the work finished before the opening of the 2016 tourist season.
During the past season, town crews were draining, refilling, chlorinating daily, as per Alberta Health Services recommendations, at a cost of $30,000 per year.   This daily work will be reduced as the new filtration system requires changing only twice per month giving a potential savings of $20,000.00 per year.
The existing budget available is $75,000 from the Capital Budget, $65,000 from MSI funding and $40,000 from Capital Reserves. Future phases for the remaining upgrades will be carried out as required.  Total estimate for the completed project is $300,000.
