Rosebud Lions Club is giving in a big way to support the new school being built in the East Wheatland area.
Last Week Golden Hills School Division announced it has selected Wheatland Crossing as the name of the new school. Even before the school was named the Rosebud Lions made a commitment of $20,000 over three years to the Friends of East Wheatland to support the school.  Recently they made the second installment.
Friends of East Wheatland helps to support items that fall outside the basic construction of the school. This could include playground equipment or other amenities
President of the Rosebud Lions Pat Murphy said the school will benefit the whole area.
“We felt that because most of our kids and grand kids are going there, we should be investing in that,” said Murphy.
He believes that the new high quality school centrally located will help stem the movement of students who opted to attend school in surrounding communities.
“It will get a lot of our kids back who moved out, so we believe we’ll be able to keep our kids closer,” he said. “We are hoping more people will move to the area and keep it vibrant and growing.”
    “There are spin-offs for everybody.”

Hanna, AB - On December 29th, 2015 at approximately 7:45 p.m., the Hanna RCMP responded to break and enter of an occupied residence in the Hanna area. While en route the RCMP learned that the suspect had fled in a grey truck that the suspect had stolen from another home in the Bassano area prior to the Hanna break in.  Shortly after, the RCMP received a complaint of a theft of gas in the Youngstown area involving a grey truck.  The Hanna RCMP, assisted by Brooks RCMP, located the stolen truck at about 10:00 p.m., abandoned in a field.  The truck contained 5 stolen guns, and 2 stolen TV’s.  RCMP Police Dog Services, having obtained a track for the suspect at about midnight, then tracked the suspect for over three hours, recovering another stolen firearm along the way before arresting the suspect without incident at about 4:00 a.m., on December 30th

The suspect had been out on foot in -25 degree weather for some time and he was taken to hospital for treatment of frostbite. The suspect will be facing numerous Criminal Code charges including Break and Enter, Theft, and Possession of stolen property upon release from hospital. This matter is still under investigation and the possibility of further charges still remains.  Other than the medical condition of the suspect, no persons were injured during this event.

Jaydee Bixby is coming to town

Jaydee Bixby

Jaydee Bixby is performing at the Drumheller Royal Canadian Legion for New Years Eve. Bixby told the Mail that the band will start playing at 9:00 PM until the wee hours of the morning.
Bixby started playing professionally when he was only 13 years old.  He played with the family band Hillbilly Cousins along with father Bud Bixby, Gary and Woody Bixby and his mother Shelley.  He was able to perform as long as the bar had an entertainment license. This meant he was only allowed on stage, in the kitchen or else he had to sit in the van during breaks.  Bixby also performed in Drumheller when they still had street dances.
Bixby has played all over Canada and has opened for famous country artists  Kenny Chesney and Blake Shelton.  Larry the Cable Guy and musical artist Chad Brownlee have opened for him.  He has met  several  celebrities and to name a few; Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney, Paul Anka, Blake Shelton,  band members of Queen, Bon Jovi and Rhianna.
Bixby said, “When you meet these celebrities, you have stars in your eyes because you’ve looked up to these people all your life.  What  is really surprising,  is that everyone I’ve met has been fantastic. “
“I was at the Grey Cup in Edmonton and was told to leave the hallway because Prime Minster Stephan Harper was coming in.”  Bixby chuckled.
He has released three albums, Cowboys and Cadillac’s in 2008, Easy to Love in 2010 and his third album was released in 2013 called Work in Progress.
Bixby’s home base is now in Vernon where he lives with his girlfriend Melissa and new baby boy named Brixton. He is involved with the charity Ogologo which raises funds for the Kelowna food bank. It gives him opportunities to perform and at the same time provide charitable groups with free advertising.
