Electric fan fire blamed for hospital lockdown

According to Drumheller Fire Department Chief Bruce Wade, quick action by the Drumheller Health Centre staff, damage was kept to a minimum.
"A fan being used to cool equipment in the dialysis treatment area over heated. Staff on duty were able to quell the fire with fire extinguishers," Chief Wade told The Mail.
The fire department responded to the call with two trucks and 9 firefighters and cleared the area of smoke from the small fire.
Other department members were asked to stand down at the Fire Hall.

The hospital was released from lockdown late Wednesday evening, June 29.

The Drumheller and Area Health Centre is no longer under lockdown after a fire alarm sounded just before 8 p.m. on Wednesday, causing the hospital to evacuate and be put on lock down. The cause of the alarm is still unknown. Patients should attend emergency if they have an illness or injury that requires medical attention.

Emergency crews attended to an incident at the Drumheller Hospital Complex just before 8:00 pm Wednesday evening. Alarms were heard throughout the hospital, and there was an unconfirmed report of a fire. A fire truck, fire rescue cruiser, and fire rescue personnel were on scene. Emergency room patients were evacuated from the hospital and patients in acute care were put under lockdown and told not to open their doors. Staff were seen putting towels under the doors leading to Continuing Care. The cause of the fire is unknown. More information to follow. There were no report of injury.
