Trampoline tossed into trees

People usually expect to see a trampoline on the ground - but how about in a tree?
Wind gusts have been common with the recent stormy weather, and one of those gusts blew an area family’s large trampoline up into the trees Thursday night.
Dalum’s Alyssa Acorn said a wind gust lasting about three minutes tossed the trampoline into the trees about 7 p.m., August 14. The trampoline is sitting about fifteen feet off the ground.
The Acorns live on an acreage in Dalum.

Drumheller resident ready to tough out the mud

Rav Lal will be running in Tough Mudder’s event race September 6 and 7 with his six person team.

The excitement for Tough Mudder is building throughout the Town of Drumheller.
It may be one of the biggest- and definitely the most extreme- events to hit the Valley, and the residents of Drumheller are welcoming the challenge with open arms.
Rav Lal is one Drumheller resident who is ready to take on all of Tough Mudder’s 16-20 kilometer, 34 obstacle glory. Running alongside his six person team made up of his wife, Shawna Lal, and friends, Lal will have to face obstacles made up of- but not limited to- mud, ice, fire, and even electric shocks.
“I wanted to sign up mostly because of the challenge of completing the race, for myself. From seeing all the videos and reading more about it, I’m a combination of excited and nervous, it looks like it’s going to be pretty tough,” Lal says.
Tough Mudder keeps the actual course that will be run a secret, only disclosing specific need-to-know information about the track. What the participants do know is to expect the unexpected- any of the obstacles on the information site could be used in the course.
“You know what all the obstacles are, you just have no idea what you’re actually going to see that day,” explains Lal.
Tough Mudder’s challenging race is now less than a month away, as the set date for the event is September 6 and 7.

Two years for Two Wheel View in Drumheller

Two Wheel View’s group of fourteen are biking to Banff on a nine day enrichment excursion.

Drumheller and district is rounded up local kids for yet another bicycle trip from our Badlands to Banff.
Two Wheel View was implemented in Drumheller last year to promote health and wellness, goal making, leadership, and environmental stewardship in local youth. Through a bicycle expedition and educational pit-stops along the way, Two Wheel View is able to enrich local youth for a second year.
Constable Craig Nelson with the Drumheller RCMP is a chaperon for his second year as the group bikes 320 kilometers to Banff.
“I expect the kids to come back with an experience unlike any other. The sense of accomplishment is indescribable. This trip is something every kid should do, since it forces them out of their comfort zone and makes them overcome large challenges, boosting their self-esteem,” Nelson explains.
The trip is nine days long and will be lead by experienced trip organizers, but other than that, the bikes are unsupported- there are no trucks following behind the group.

Kerry Maguire has been with Two Wheel View for three years, and was a part of the long distance trip last year.
“There are points where you can be intimidated by the kilometers, but since this is a leadership trip, there’s a great support system in place for us and the kids. In the mornings when we wake up, we ask how everyone is feeling on a scale of 1-10, and we let kids vent if anyone is overwhelmed,” Maguire says. “The best part of this trip is showing youth that when you interact with the environment, it’s more personal. On this trip, you get to see, feel and experience more than you ever could inside a car.”
The group will average fifty kilometers a day in order to reach their ultimate destination of Banff.
