Winning Athlete of the Year awards is an achievement but being named winners in the very first year is something special. A panel of anonymous judges made the selection from nominations received from the public.
Sam Brown will recieve the Male Athlete Award during the Rotary Club’s Celebration of Excellence presented by Canalta on Saturday, June 6 at the Badlands Community Facility. A student at the Drumheller Valley Secondary School, Brown started the year by participating in cross country and winning the right to compete at the Provincial Cross Country Meet in October. He was one of the starters on the varsity DVSS high school basketball team, receiving an All Star award at the Strathmore Basketball Tournament.  He also advanced to the Zone Level Badminton Tourney and is currently participating on the DVSS Track and Field Team and last year competed in the provincial 3000 m race. He competes in marathons and consistently finished in the top ten of his age category. Sam also participates in distance triathlons that involve a 1500 m swim, a 40 km bike ride and a 10 km run.
Carmanah Olbrich is Drumheller’s Female Athlete of the Year. This 15-year-old is keenly involved in soccer, cross country running, volleyball and badminton. She helps coach younger children learning the game of soccer and recently completed a course to become a referee.  Carmanah is a member of the Alpine Club of Canada. Her feats in the past two years include climbing three mountains - Abbot Pass (9598 feet), the Tower of Babe (7290 feet) and the Middle Sister in Banff (9086 feet).
The Athlete of the Year awards will be presented June 6, commencing at 5:30 pm. Tickets may be picked up at SJ Fashions, or by calling Helen Peers at 403-823-3578.

Global Industries Inc., an Alberta based company specializing in creating beverages to promote healthier lifestyles, announced they have added Walmart as their first national retail destination.
After building their distribution network through direct sales and partnering with independent territorial distributors across Canada, RE7 has now landed an agreement with Walmart Canada. RE7 is on the shelves in 264 Walmart locations nationwide.
Of the company’s latest milestone, RE7 VP Mathew Park said, “We have come a long way from the days of mixing our drink over the stove in the kitchen on the family farm.   We are excited that we are finally able to make the drink available nationally with a retailer as well recognized as Walmart.  It’s a very important step in our quest to help people feel better by providing a healthy drink option in a market full of sugar-loaded pop and sport drinks.”
RE7 contains no stimulants, artificial flavours or colours, is sweetened with stevia extract and contains 20 calories per serving.
In 2013, RE7 identified an ideal partner with the fast-growing sport of volleyball and soon became the “Official Drink of Volleyball Canada”.  Their partnership with Volleyball Canada helped catch the attention of Walmart and the demand created by the national reach of volleyball enthusiasts were instrumental in finalizing the agreement.
RE7 continues to promote its drink at Volleyball Canada Championship events across the country and is actively supporting and hydrating Canada’s Men’s and Women’s indoor and beach teams on their road to the 2016 Rio Games.
RE7 has barged onto the beverage scene with clever, thought provoking slogans and appealing personal incentive campaigns made visible through various marketing platforms.
RE7 Global Industries Inc. is a beverage company based in Calgary, AB.  Founded in 2011, RE7 is committed to creating refreshingly healthy drinks, suitable for everyone, without compromising great flavor.
RE7’s innovative vitamin and mineral based formula stands out by being directly responsible for the creation of the newest category in beverage classification in a highly competitive industry.
