Hussar 4-H Sale brings in the buyers

Boasting another successful year, the Gleichen, Cluny, Standard, and Hussar 4-H Show and Sale Acheivment Day was held this past Sunday in the Hussar Arena. Sale average was $2.32 per pound on the 32 calves sold, with 32 members showing steers this year.
Grand Champion of the show was member Jennaya Christensen’s 1,389 pound Simmental steer which was purchased by Westegard Motors of Drumheller for $3.10 per pound. The Grand Champion banner and buckle Jennaya received was donated by Hussar Savings.  Reserve Grand Champion was member Russell Treacy with his 1,447 pound steer which was purchased by Western Chev Olds of Drumheller for $3.10 per pound.  The Reserve Grand Champion banner was donated by Bill & Kay Slemko, and the pewter plate Russell received was donated by the Royal Bank in Strathmore. The Grand Showman was won by Russell Treacy, winning luggage donated by Ken & Judy Sauve of Gleichen.  The reserve Grand Showman was won by Heather Fraser, who received a computer case donated by Dynagra of Standard.  The Grand Grooming was won by Stephanie Heryford, receiving the Ralph McElroy Memorial Trophy and a picture frame.  The reserve Grand Grooming was won by Mackayla Kaiser, who won a gift certificate donated by the Hussar Lions Club. The best rate of gain this year was a tie between Jennaya Christensen and Russell Treacy, both steers having an average gain of 3.56 pounds per day. Both won a photo album donated by Melvin & Karen Sandum. 
Junior Champion was won by Russell Treacy, who received a jacket donated by Armstrong Auto,  Junior Reserve Champion was Danielle Sage who won a Bernie Brown print donated by CJS Agro Services Ltd.  Russell Treacy won Junior Showman, and received a buckle donated by Ralph & Linda Seeley.  Reserve Junior Showman was Courtney Alexandruk, who received a gift certificate donated by Sevcik Simmentals.  Junior Grooming was Russell Treacy, winning a bucket and supplies donated by the Scotia Bank in Drumheller. Reserve Junior Grooming was Courtney Alexandruk, who won a showstick donated by Gordon and Joan Armstrong.  Blankets were won for the first in each breed.  Russell Treacy for Hereford donated by Brad and Tammy Corbiell, Sydnie Kaiser for Charolais donated by Kaiser Charolais, Austin Christensen for Simmental donated by Nail Agriculture, Danielle Sage for Angus donated by Willard and Jeanne Treacy. 
Senior Champion was Jennaya Christensen who won a Bernie Brown Print donated by Russell and Wendy Nail.  Reserve Champion was Ryan Fraser, who received a Bernie Brown Print donated by Ted Sandum Ranches.  Senior Grand Showman was Heather Fraser, winning a gift certificate donated by Murray & Gloria Fraser. Reserve Showman was Cody Brown, and he won a photo album donated by Gordon Sandum Farms.  Senior Grand Grooming was won by Stephanie Heryford who received a duffle bag donated by Kathy Dundas Agencies.  Senior Reserve Grooming was won by Mackayla Kaiser who received western drink glasses donated by R & M Brown Farms. The first senior for each breed received blankets - Ryan Fraser for Hereford donated by DW Hererfords, Mackayla Kaiser for Charolais donated by Laycock Pressure Truck Service, Jennaya Christensen for Simmental donated by Twin View Ranches, Heather Fraser for Angus donated by Count Ridge Red Angus. 
The Hussar Beef Club auctioned off their fundraiser steer for $2.60 per pound to Bow Slope Shipping Association and Grace Cattle Carriers of Brooks.grand-champ.jpg
