Legion marks Vimy Ridge Centennial

IMG 4646

Come April 9, the Royal Canadian Legion in Drumheller will be taking a moment to mark the Battle of Vimy Ridge.
This year Canada is celebrating the centennial of the Battle of Vimy Ridge.  From April 9-12, 1917, the Canadian Corps battled three divisions of the German Sixth Army. Canada lost more than 3,500 soldiers when they took firm control of the Ridge.
In the years that followed, it has been recognized as more than a battle, but as a significant moment as Canada came of age as a nation.
On April 9, a centennial celebration is taking place at the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France and students from Drumheller will be there to mark the day
In Drumheller, the Legion is marking the centennial on Sunday, April 9 at the Drumheller Cenotaph and they are inviting the community to join them on this historic occasion at 1 p.m.
