On Monday February 1 Co-op Mall and merchants donated $500 to the Drumheller Humane Society for work done last fall. Kelci Travis of the Humane Society is a volunteer board member, foster coordinator and secretary for this not-for profit society. Travis said, “Our main focus is to strive to help animals not only within our community but animals in general. We teach educational programs about animal health, spaying and neutering. We have a small board, a large volunteer base, people who foster, cleaners and cat cuddlers. Volunteers come from DARTS, MH Enterprises and the high schools. Right now, this centre is only for cats, so dogs are fostered until they are adopted. Currently we have 22 cats of which five are kittens. Pregnant cats are sent to a foster home to have their babies in order to have a calmer environment.
