A message from the family of Dr.Chung

    Family, friends, community,
Thank you to all who gathered to remember our Dad. Thank you to our family for travelling from Toronto, Cape Breton and Boston to be with us this past week to celebrate this great man’s life and the legacy that he has left behind.
Being around all of our incredible relatives, we are able to realize the foundations of the values that are instilled in all of us. Our family cannot even begin to express what your presence means to our Dad and what it has done to help us cope with our loss. So thank you all for being here with us.
So…a Jamaican and a Cape Bretoner walk into a bar… sounds like a joke!
If anything, you all know how our Dad enjoyed seeing people smile and laugh. His smile, easy demeanour, and soft voice made him very approachable. His likeable personality helped him forge lasting friendships anywhere he went. A special thank you to all of Dad’s friends who came to pay their respects and to our close friends who have been, and will continue to be, with us through the good times and bad. We look forward to sharing memories today and for years to come.
And of course, the magic question – how many babies did “Dr. Chung” deliver?!
We can’t even begin to tell you how many times we have been asked this question! Throughout his extensive professional career, the impact he had on his patients is incredible.
Since his retirement, we have each witnessed him being begged to go back to work. Reading all of the comments posted to his obituary has been completely uplifting. Often when reading them, we didn’t even know who the people were! What seemed like just his “day job”, clearly wasn’t. It was so much more. His unique ability to turn trying times into fond memories for so many people has had an extraordinary effect on a large part of the community and we are so very proud.
When his obituary was posted online it went viral. Not being up to speed on technology lingo, Dad likely would have thought it was a medical term! Regardless, we are humbled by your visits, phone calls, gifts, messages, kind words, and prayers.
A very special, wholehearted thank you to Dr. Olfert and all of the staff at the Drumheller Health Centre who helped care for Dad over the past months.
Amongst all of the laughing and crying over the past two weeks in remembering our Dad (a.k.a. Jeff , Jeffrey, brother Jeff , Uncle Jeff , Dr. Chung, Gung Gung, Ja Gung), we remember one thing – he is here to comfort us through this tough time and more importantly he is here laughing and smiling with us as we celebrate his life well lived.

With grateful hearts,
Mark, Wes, Alicia, & Gary Chung
