Weather conditions challenge drivers

The 511alberta.ca camera on Highway 9 about 10km west of Drumheller shows winds and blowing snow Thursday morning, January 8.

Weather conditions are giving drivers challenging conditions on Drumheller area roads for a second day in a row.
The Alberta Road Reports showed area highways early Thursday morning were again experiencing high winds,  blowing and drifting snow, and icy conditions.
Winds on Highway 9 were shown as blowing at almost sixty kilometres an hour between midnight and 1:00 a.m. Conditions on Highway 9 improved by about 9:30 a.m., but Highways 10 east and 56 are still experiencing strong winds and blowing snow.
The weather created delays for drivers on area roads Wednesday, while crews worked hard to keep up the sanding and plowing.
A number of drivers had to pull over in Delia to wait for daylight before continuing to travel, due to the high winds  and blowing snow causing near-zero visibility on the road.
Drivers travelling in from Red Deer had to take extra time due to poor road conditions, and those driving from Calgary to Drumheller also experienced extremely slippery roads, with a report received from one driver of a number of vehicles off the road.
