Three Hills RCMP arrest man following prolonged pursuit

A police pursuit last Thursday, which spanned the Stettler and Three Hills area ended without serious injuries and the arrest of a 31 year old man.

On June 7, at approximately 1 p.m., Stettler RCMP responded to a complaint of a suspicious vehicle on Highway 594.

When speaking to the male driver, he seemed disoriented, and was unable to produce any identification. When members asked him to turn his truck off, he accelerated backwards, and then forwards, causing one of the investigating RCMP members to jump away for his safety, resulting in minor injuries.

A pursuit was initiated, which continued into Three Hills Detachment area. A spike belt was deployed by Three Hills RCMP, successfully disabling the vehicle, however the male fled on foot.

The Calgary Police Service helicopter was called, as well as three RCMP police service dogs and handlers. Neither Hawk1 nor the dog handlers were initially able to locate the suspect, however, after a long track and search, the RCMP dog handlers were able to locate the suspect at approximately 11 p.m.

The suspect sustained a dog bite in the course of his arrest.

Three Hills RCMP Detachment currently has a 31-year-old male, from Red Deer, in custody. At the time of the pursuit he was driving a grey Ford F350 stolen from Rosetown, Saskatchewan. Items from the stolen truck were located at another location in Kindersley Sask., where copper wire was reported stolen. When the vehicle was finally stopped, RCMP recovered a large amount of copper wire, galvanized steel, break in tools including a chop saw, numerous keys for ATV’S, holiday trailers and pickup trucks. Two firearms were also located and seized.

This individual has numerous outstanding warrants in Alberta and Saskatchewan for possession of stolen property, possession of drugs, possession of break in tools, fail to comply with release documents, fail to appear in court, and obstruction of a police officer.

The RCMP are pleased to have apprehended this male on these new allegations, as well as the outstanding warrants, without significant injuries to the suspect, the public or the members.
