Jacob Warkentin passed away suddenly on Sept. 10, 2009 in Victoria B.C, at the age of 81.  Jake was born in Delia, Alberta on Sept 4, 1928 and worked as a driller and mechanic in the area before venturing overseas. Working for a number of oil companies, he had contracts from Arctic Ocean to the tip of South America and everywhere in between.  His travels also took him to Africa, the Middle East, China and the many exotic islands of Indonesia.  Jake’s working life was one big adventure on a grand scale. He was greatly admired and respected by his peers in the Oil Patch for his work ethic. Everyone who knew Jake will surely remember his good nature, kindness and empathy towards others. Jake spent his last few years in BC, and enjoyed spending his time with family and friends in Vancouver and Victoria, and lending an experienced hand with household projects.  He will be greatly missed by his daughter Pamela, son Jay, daughter-in-law Ronda and treasured grandchildren Katharine and Paige.  Predeceased by his sisters Kay Dosier, Heidi Krasman, Anne McLean (Pete), brother Irvin Warkentin and brother-in-law Joe Gerodo. Survived by his siblings Liz Gerodo, Nick Warkentin (Jean), Betty Sandulak (Sam) and Ed Warkentin (Shirley), brothers-in-law Joe Dosier and Doug Krasman and the many nieces and nephews he was so proud to speak of.  Many thanks to all of the friends and family members who have expressed their support and condolences.  A Celebration of Life will be held at the Newcastle Hall on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009 from 12:00 – 2:00 pm for Jake’s family and friends.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lung Association in Jake’s memory.
