OLMSTEAD Richard George

Olmstead, Richard George
1947-2012

With great sadness, the family of Richard Olmstead announce his passing on Sunday, November 4, 2012. He passed away in his home surrounded by the love of his family after a life long battle with cancer. Richard was born in Hanna on March 15, 1947. He was predeceased by his dad, Max, mom, Sally, brother, Macky, and sister, Gloria. Richard has left to mourn his wife Gail of 46 years, his three children and six grandchildren, Brent (Debi), Kelsey and Danielle, Leanne (Brian), Brayson and Shekaya, Sean (Shelagh), Taylor and McKenzie. Richard chose to work for the family business rather than pursue his education. In 1966, Richard and Gail married and moved to Craigmyle, where they made their home and raised their family. At one time or another most family members were active in the growth of Olmstead and Sons Building Movers. He was proud to work side by side with his family doing what he loved and doing it well. He was a huge part of his community, as well as a volunteer firefighter and member of the Craigmyle Civic Center. Richard was a jack of all trades and his knowledge was vast. He was loving and kind and always willing to lend a helping hand and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Memorial service officiated by Rev. Leila Curry was held on November 9, 2012. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Craigmyle Heritage Foundation, Box 1B-3-10, in Richard’s name to be put towards a memorial bench at the Craigmyle Park for the Craigmyle Centennial. Cathy Watts of Heartland Funeral Services Ltd. entrusted with arrangements.
