Danny Joseph Kakuk, beloved husband of Diane Kakuk of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023 at the age of 60 years.
Danny was the youngest child of Johnnie and Effie Kakuk, and was born in Drumheller, AB on April 19, 1962. He grew up in the village of Delia, AB and loved being a part of a tight-knit farming community. He met his wife Diane in Brooks and moved to Barrhead where they had their two children and he worked as a Manager at the Alberta Distance Learning Centre specializing in computer technology. After moving to Calgary in 2001, Danny re-educated in financial planning and accounting, obtaining his Certified General Accountant designation, and developed a successful career at the Canada Revenue Agency. As a member of St. Michael Catholic Community, he spent years volunteering, including serving homeless families at Inn from the Cold. He was a proud Hockey Dad and treasurer for the Mustangs Hockey Club. Danny enjoyed working around the yard, was an excellent card player, and enjoyed supporting his children in their many activities. Trips to the family farm in Delia for harvest was also a favourite activity. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
Danny is survived by his wife, Diane Kakuk of Calgary, AB; two children, Maggie Dalke (Eric) and Erik Kakuk of Calgary, AB; father, Johnnie Kakuk of Drumheller, AB; sister, Angie Moe (Don) of Delia, AB; and brother, Larry Kakuk of Drumheller, AB. Danny was predeceased by his mother, Effie Kakuk.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael Catholic Community (800 – 85th Street S.W.) on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at 11 a.m. Reception to follow at the church. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed at www.MHFH.com.

Mr. Rick Spafford of Drumheller beloved father of Carly and Hailey passed away peacefully on January 27, 2023 at the age of 63 years.
Rick was born and raised in the Drumheller valley. Rick was well known for being a phenomenal pool player.
He was legendary throughout Alberta. He had many fond memories of tournaments and games with his friends. He was an animal lover and almost always had an animal companion, be it a dog, a bird or the cat he thought he never wanted but later became his best friend. Anyone who crossed paths with Rick would say he was kind, selfless and would give you the shirt off of his back. His great sense of humour and his fearless attitude made him quite the character. Rick was strong in his faith. His creative mind and strong spirit will be greatly missed.
Rick was predeceased by his parents Ron Spafford, Irene Spafford.
Rick leaves to cherish his memory, his two daughters, Carly (Cody) Spafford, Hailey Spafford, his siblings Kathy Hadley, Debbie (Pete) Cardamone, Dave Spafford, numerous nieces, nephews: Sarah, Josh, Lisa, Shane, Jordan, Ryan, Tyler, Melissa, Tanille and a lifetime of friends.
A Celebration of Life for Rick will be held Sunday, February 5, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at the Church of the Nazarene(627 6th Street, East, Drumheller, Alberta) with Pastor Carlos officiating. If friends so desire memorial donations may be made to S.T.A.R.S. Drumheller District Humane Society or to the charity of ones’ choice.

Condolences to the family of Kathleen Vickers

Kathleen passed away peacefully at the age of 97. Kathleen was born in Jasmin, Saskatchewan.
After finishing school she came to Drumheller to visit her aunt and uncle and never moved back to Saskatchewan.
She met the love of her life Jay Vickers. They were very involved with the Drumheller Miners hockey team. They also loved to go dancing and camping.
Kathleen worked at Eaton’s until they shut down. She then went to work for the gas company in the office until she retired.
Kathleen was very involved with the hospital auxiliary. Her knitting and crocheting was always in the auxiliary cupboard for sale. She loved going out for coffee with her friends. She loved going for drives in the country.
She was predeceased by her husband Jay Vickers, her parents Fred and Laura Hilson and sister and brother-in-law Monica and Lauria Patenaude.
She is survived by her niece Rhonda (Gerald) Beres and their family; Greg (Kim, their children; Taryn and William), Chris (Chelsey, their children; Sawyer, Beckett, and Boston), Kevin (his children; Kaleb, Colton, and Jase), Heather (Michael, their children; Eden, Linc and Alix), niece Debbie Patenaude (George Vass), and numerous nieces and nephews on Jay’s side.
Graveside service will be held at a later date which will be announced.
Anyone wishing to make a donation in memory of Kathleen can do so to the Drumheller Area Health Foundation (Auxilliary), Hillview Lodge, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
The Family would like to thank the staff at Hillview Lodge for the care they gave her plus staff from Helping Hands and the wonderful nurses at the Drumheller Hospital.
