HATFIELD
George

June 5, 1935 - July 21, 2023

George Hatfield of Drumheller, AB, beloved husband of the late Gail Hatfield, passed away on July 21, 2023 at the age of 88.
George was born June 5, 1935 at Calgary, AB to Wilmer and Ida Anne Hatfield. He was an athletic kid, enjoying basketball and hockey in his younger years. He and his close friends that he grew up with all attended university in the U.S. and all returned to Calgary to start careers and families. The group has remained life-long friends.
Dad met and married the love of his life, Gail Cundal, in 1964. Daughter Elin arrived in 1965 and son Sean in 1967.
George initially started in life insurance before settling into the car business at GM in 1963 which brought the family to Drumheller in 1974 where George owned/operated Western GM until 1977. He then learned the farming business and doing what he does best, sold farm machinery and equipment for many years. He was a businessman, but primarily a family man. He loved all aspects of family life and always said he enjoyed all the different stages of being a father and husband.
George and Gail loved to entertain and socialize with friends, were involved in the community – Kinsmen, K-40’s, combine crashes, and various community events. They both enjoyed playing crib on the porch and mom would occasionally let dad win now and then. Both mom and dad were number one fans at Shayne’s hockey games and Brandin’s sports and academic events. After mom passed, dad’s highlight of the day was a call to Sydney to chat about anything and everything.
Sadly, he said goodbye to Gail in March 2013. After that, he focused on a quieter life, enjoying his family and grandkids, residing on a nice, quiet street and neighbourhood in Nacmine.
George is predeceased by his loving wife Gail, father Wilmer, mother Ida, and sister Eleanor. He is survived by daughter Elin (Randy) and their children Brandin (Mark) and Shayne (Kendall) and son Sean (Andrea) and their daughter Sydney.
George will be remembered for his incredible sense of humour, his uncanny ability to share yet another story at any given moment, and his complete love of family. Dad will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.
Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 11, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Nacmine Community Hall.
