It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce that our Matriarch of the Garrett family has passed to be with her Saviour the Lord. Vera Bernice Garrett of Carbon, Alberta beloved wife of the late Robert (Bob) Garrett peacefully passed at the Drumheller Hospital on September 3, 2022 at the age of 92 years young.
Vera Bernice was born April 30, 1930 to Karl and Lena Berreth in Beiseker. Vera was one of five children raised on the family farm between Carbon and Acme. She attended Berean Bible College in Calgary after high school. She lived and worked in Calgary, she was hired on at the Calgary City Hall in Parks and Recreation in the office.
While on a trip to Banff, Alberta with Johnston and Mary Hart, brother and sister, they happened to meet up with Sam, Grace, Bob and Wayne Garrett whom were also mutual friends of the Hart’s. This encounter with Bob was the turning point to a beautiful relationship. They met in 1959 in Banff and married on October 15, 1960. Banff was their go to destination especially around October.
Vera and Bob built their home in Carbon at 309 Bruce Ave. where they resided for over 60 years and raised two boys, Bentley and Clark.
Vera’s love for the Lord was so passionate you could hear it as she played the piano in the Carbon United Church every Sunday. She would play the organ at home and listen to her records and later CD’s of all the gospel music. She loved to sew, crochet, do crossword and puzzles, her and Bob also loved to travel, they went everywhere.
Vera loved her grandchildren and loved it when they would come and have lunch with her and Bob, and she loved it when they had sleep-overs. Her love grew when the great-grandchildren came along, she loved interacting and telling stories and watching them play and to have them around her. Vera loved her family and lived for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family was very important to her.
Vera is survived by her son Clark (Kelly) Garrett, son Bentley Garrett, granddaughter, Jessica (Randy) Sharpe, granddaughter Karlee (Byron) Thompson, great-grandchildren: Rachel Sharpe, Kate Sharpe, Wyatt Thompson, Jolene Thompson. Her brother Paul (Valerie) Berreth, and brother-in-law Wayne (Elaine) Garrett, sister-in-law Miriam Berreth, numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Vera was predeceased by her loving husband Robert (Bob) Garrett, her parents Karl and Lena Berreth, brother Leo (Eunice) Ivan Berreth, sister Gladys (Bill) Strohschien, her father-in-law and mother-in-law Samuel and Grace Garrett, brother-in-law Richard Garrett.
Those who knew Vera knew her love for the Lord her Saviour. She was carried away peacefully to be in His loving arms. God be with you all.
A funeral service will be held at the Courtney-Winters Funeral Home in Drumheller, Alberta on Friday,
September 9th, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. A gathering of friends and family to follow at the Carbon Cemetery and a fellowship luncheon at the Carbon Community Hall after.

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother.
Katie Kennedy passed away peacefully on August 30, 2022 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton.
Born in Edmonton on March 17, 1928 to Dora and George Sauchyn, Katie survived her eight siblings, Mary, Annie, Margaret, John, Jim, Al, Walter and Bill.
Katie grew up in Riverdale and married Jim Kennedy in 1953. Their life entailed moves between Saskatchewan and Alberta until Jim’s passing in 1983.
After living in Red Deer for a few years, Katie returned to her favourite place - the home of the Edmonton Oilers. Katie enjoyed a busy life which included being an active member of SCONA Seniors Centre. She relocated to Ottewell in 2021.
Katie’s interests included sports of all types, country music, knitting, playing cards, cooking, baking and doing puzzles.
Always respected as a hard worker, Katie will also be remembered for her generosity, abundance of energy, and especially her sense of humour. Being a social person, she made and maintained many lifelong friendships.
As a devoted mother, she engaged herself in all her children’s activities with enthusiasm and support.
Katie will be sadly missed by her 3 children, Judy Garlinski of Grande Prairie, Lori (Michael) Stefanishion of Drumheller, Don Kennedy (Marina) of Edmonton and stepson Roger (Eleanor) Kennedy of Saskatoon and their families.
Grandchildren Kyra (Walter), Michael (Jenny), Amy (Ryan), Amber, Janna, Jamey, and Dasha will hold precious memories in their hearts forever.
Katie also leaves her great grandchildren Braeden, Katie, Mason, Margaret, Skylar, Bentley, Gracie, Everlie, and Sofia to remember her.
Katie is also survived by her sister-in-law, Olive Sowchyn, numerous nieces, nephews, and many special friends.
Respecting our mother’s wishes, her ashes will be interred at a later date.

Condolences to the family of Leila Gall (nee Carter)

Leila was born to parents William and Edith Carter on July 14, 1921 on the Carter farm west of Delia. She went to school at Starland, Delia, Coronation and Drumheller. She worked for AGT as a telephone operator in Drumheller, Lethbridge and Calgary. She attended nursing school at the Calgary General Hospital and graduated in the class of 1951. She practiced nursing in Shelby, Montana and Hanna. As a student nurse in Calgary she would go to dances at the Alazar Temple where she met Henry Gall. They were married July 21, 1951 and moved to the Carter farm where they farmed and raised their family.
The family moved to Hanna in 1964. Henry passed away in 1997. Leila moved to Clover Bar Nursing Home in Sherwood Park in 2005. She moved to Strathcona Capital
Care long term care home in 2019 where she resided until her passing.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Henry; infant brother, Billy; step-sister, Ruth Greer (nee McColm); and step-brother, Tom McColm.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Arla (companion, Dan Gartner); sons, Alvin (Shirley) Gall, Greg (Pat) Gall; and daughter, Margaret (Cameron) Sonnenberg; nine grandchildren, Joshua Schmaltz, Katherine Schmaltz, Gary Gall, Derek Gall, Anna (Steve) Ropp, John (Andrea) Gall, Pete (Mel) Gall, Beth Sonnenberg (Stephane DesJardine), Christan Sonnenberg (Sean Callahan); and 17 great-grandchildren.
Leila was a loving mother, a caring nurse, an active and successful gardener on both the farm and in Hanna. She took up the pallet and brush, lapidary jewellery, quilting, baking, sewing, knitting, fishing and was a member of the United Church, Bible Study and Royal Purple. She entered garden vegetables, baking, preserves, photography and art in the Hanna Fall Fair and was rewarded for her entries.
She was in the movie “Why Shoot the Teacher”. Henry and Leila travelled to various destinations including Canada east as far as Nova Scotia, west to British Columbia, most of the northern Unites States, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Yugoslavia and Holland.
